Saturday’s drawing came a few days after a Macomb County man claimed a $1.3 million jackpot after he “had a feeling” about playing a ticket last week.

That was the first major win in the state since a Shelby Township woman won a $1 million Powerball prize last month. That marked the fourth time in June that a player in Michigan has won $1 million playing either the Mega Millions or Powerball.

On June 11, a Farmington Hills man won $3 million playing Mega Millions which was also the largest prize ever won by a player who bought their ticket online in state history.

That win occurred just a few days after Greg Ricardi of Clinton Township won $1 million while playing the Mega Millions. He said he “couldn’t stop smiling” after his big win.

A week before that an Eaton County man won $1 million which will help provide financial security for him after health issues have impacted him in recent years.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot were Kevin and Stephanie Blake of Waterford who $21 million after splitting a $42 million jackpot on Oct. 13, 2017. Kevin picked the winning numbers by using a combination of family birthdays. After winning, the couple said they would not retire and would continue working.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Ypsilanti last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the CVS in Ypsilanti, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.

And five months ago, on Feb. 22, a lucky player in Indiana won the $435 million Powerball jackpot, the 10th largest in the game’s history.

The winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, July 19, are: 50, 51, 59, 61, 63 and the Powerball of 04.

Tonight’s jackpot is small when compared with the January 2016 record Powerball jackpot, which was worth nearly $1.6 billion. But Americans will still drop by the nearest convenience store with dreams of cash and buy a ticket.

The billion-dollar-plus prize won in the Jan. 13, 2016, drawing was the largest lotto jackpot awarded in U.S. history and was split by three winners. In the summer of 2016, a New Hampshire player won a $478 million prize; the June 10 win of $447 million was the eighth largest jackpot in the game’s history.

If you still want to take a chance — someone has to win, right? — you have a better chance of hitting the jackpot if you let the computer pick your numbers. The Multi-State Lottery Association, which operates the Powerball game, says about 75 percent of winning tickets are selected when the numbers are chosen by a computer.

The lottery game is played in 44 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball draws can be seen on hundreds of TV stations nationwide. It may also be available on cable or your mobile device. The draws are also posted on YouTube and on our site. Where to watch the Powerball drawing on TV.
